With modern life comes choices – lots of choices! Sometimes it can actually make things more difficult, like when you and your spouse are trying to choose a restaurant for dinner! But when it comes to dental work, choices are a good thing, particularly if you want to improve the appearance of your smile.
As a cosmetic dentist in Plano, we’ve transformed countless smiles and have seen firsthand the positive ripple effect it has on our patient’s lives. Since we hear so many questions about which cosmetic options are available, we wanted to write a blog to review four of the best ways to help your smile shine its brightest.
For many years, the only option for straightening the teeth was traditional braces, which use metal brackets and wires to move the teeth.
Then around 20 years ago, Invisalign was introduced, which relies on clear, plastic trays called aligners to create movement. Now, not only can you invisibly correct your crooked or crowded teeth, it’s often faster as well!
Veneers are strong, wafer-thin coverings that are adhered to the front of the teeth. They only require a very small amount of your natural tooth to be removed, and are perfect for covering each of the following flaws:
- Severe stains
- Misshapen teeth
With basic care and maintenance, veneers can last for many years, if not decades!
This is one of the most common cosmetic procedures because it’s simple, fast, and offers great results! If you’d like to brighten your smile, you have two main choices:
- Take-home Whitening – With this option, you can lighten your teeth up to 10 shades over a period of 2-3 weeks. You’ll receive custom-made trays and a professional-strength whitening gel to use each day until you reach your desired shade. This is an ideal choice for people who have sensitive teeth or want to have more control over the whitening process.
- Zoom! Whitening – Also called in-office whitening, you can see up to 10 shades’ difference in a 1-2 hour appointment. This involves applying a whitening solution to the teeth along with a special light that accelerates the process. It’s perfect if you have a big event coming up and want to see results immediately!
Cosmetic bonding simply refers to white or tooth-colored filling material that’s used for a cosmetic procedure. Bonding is also used if someone needs a filling done on a front tooth.
It can be done in one visit and is perfect for covering imperfections such as cracks, stains and chips. Not to mention that when it’s used for fillings on back teeth, it looks much better than the metal fillings that were used for so many years!
Between these four cosmetic options, there’s a solution for nearly any imperfection you might have. With modern dentistry, improving your smile is easier than ever before!
