Want to Maximize Your Benefits? Visit Your Dentist!

dentist on calendarMore and more Americans are getting dental benefits every year — that’s fantastic! People with dental coverage are more likely to have great oral health, and they’re less likely to have some other problems, including heart disease and osteoporosis. Sadly, however, not everyone who has insurance takes advantage of it. Now is the perfect time of year to visit your dentist in Plano and maximize your dental benefits.

If You Don’t Use It, You Lose It

The end of the calendar year is fast approaching, and you probably have a long list of to dos to take care of before 2018 rolls around. You might have lots of shopping and cooking to do, family trips to plan, and tons of tasks at work to prepare for the new year. Your oral health might be the last thing on your mind. However, it’s important to remember that dental benefits usually expire on December 31. Whatever benefits you haven’t used by then, you lose.

That’s why the last couple months of the year is the perfect time to visit your dentist in Plano. If you’ve already used up your deductible, you might be able to get a free cleaning and checkup. And if you need more extensive work done, it’s best not to delay. Your coverage could change with the new calendar year, or your deductible might increase. Why take a risk on waiting?

Insurance Isn’t the Only Way to Get Help With Dental Care

If you don’t have dental insurance, you might have a flexible spending account (FSA) instead, which covers a range of health-related expenses. Just like dental insurance, however, FSA benefits expire at the end of the year. There might be a short grace period that lasts until mid-March or so, but not all FSAs are so lenient.

A health spending account (HSA) works similarly to an FSA, but the benefits don’t expire. If you have an HSA, you are in less of a time crunch to maximize your benefits. However, bear in mind that your dentist’s prices might change during the new year, and your oral health doesn’t care what the calendar says. If it’s been more than six months since your last dental checkup, it’s a good idea to make an appointment as soon as you’re able.

Your Dentist Wants to Help You Maximize Those Benefits

Check with your dentist to see what forms of payment they accept. Many are happy to work with a range of insurance companies. Even if you don’t have insurance, you might be able to take advantage of healthcare credit or another payment method. Call your dentist’s office to talk about your options so you can keep your smile as bright and shiny as December decorations. You’ll be glad you didn’t wait!
